NSH Troubleshooting Day! NSH is excited to offer a one-day troubleshooting series to help you solve lab problems ranging from H&E issues to decalcification. Attendees will attend three unique troubleshooting lectures over the course of a single day, be provided the opportunity to ask questions, and to virtually interact with other participants.
The course consists of three live interactive sessions conducted via Zoom. Instructors will utilize chat, polling and break out rooms. Each participant attending the course will earn 3 CEUs.

Available Functions
H&E Troubleshooting It's the "bread and butter" stain, yet things still go awry creating major stress and delay! This session will review the basic principles and guidelines for proper Hematoxylin and Eosin Staining so that you can confidently and quickly get to the bottom of the issue. A brief history of H&E will be covered; a look into what pre-analytical processes could affect the H&E stain; and review of some Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures that will enable the laboratory to consistently deliver the highest quality H&E stain! |

Paraffin Sectioning Troubleshooting Paraffin sectioning is a crucial part of the histology process and it impacts everything from tissue preservation to staining quality – so what can you do when specimens are not ideal? This session will cover ways to identify and resolve embedding errors, sectioning artifacts, and orientation. |

Decalcification Troubleshooting Even if your lab doesn’t routinely receive bone of calcified specimens, understanding decalcification and how properly troubleshoot issues when they arise will undoubtedly occur at some point your lab career. This session will cover the need for decalcification, the steps, and what to do when things go wrong – so you are prepared hard specimens when they come your way! |

<p><strong>Debra Siena, HTL(ASCP)QIHC</strong><br><strong>Histology Consulting Group</strong></p><p>Prior to Histology Consulting Group, I was the Director of Scientific Affairs and Technical Support Manager at StatLab and I have over 30 years of experience in IHC, routine histology, client troubleshooting, worked to resolve product issues in partnership with customers and suppliers, educating sales and customer service team members on IHC, histology, and overseeing StatLab’ s Advanced Diagnostics IHC products as well as technical support for IHC and Special Stain instrumentation. Prior to StatLab, I was with Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. for seven years as a Technical Marketing Representative, Senior Technical Marketing Specialist, Area Support Manager and Key Account Technical Specialist with the Corporate and Major Account Team. While at Ventana, I was a multiple award winner, including Technical Specialist of the Year, Technical Specialist of the Quarter, and President’s Club member. </p>

<p><strong>Diana Sterchi, MS, HTL(ASCP)</strong><br><strong>Independent Consultant</strong></p><p>My consulting consisted of several laboratories in the United States (US) and several outside of the US. My product is mainly teaching technicians and setting up histology laboratories. I currently have 5 students in the US, 3 in Zambia, and 4 in Tanzania. I completed histotechnology theory and practical on 7 from Eswatini, 5 in Haiti, 7 in China, and 5 in Botswana. I do most of my training in person and that requires traveling to other countries. I also, assist with NSH in any activities when need such as the Histotechnology Training Program (HTP), on Demand presentations.</p>

How Does It Work?
What Do I Need to Participate?
We will be using Zoom to host the course. If you do not already have the zoom desktop app installed, you can download and install it here: https://zoom.us/download The course will be interactive utilizing chat and breakout rooms. This event will provide you with the opportunity to be on camera and use your microphone to ask questions, comment, and have discussions. This is not required, but highly recommended.
Can I Watch On-Demand?
The series is best experienced live so you can interact with the presenters. However, we will provide limited access to the on-demand recordings of each session (1 week from the live air date).
Do Sessions Qualify for Continuing Education?
Attendees receive three (3) CEUs for participation in the troubleshooting series.
